Who We Are
Windy Corner Earthworks
Eugene de Bruyn – Owner/Operator, Windy Corner Earthworks
Eugene de Bruyn lives by the ethos: a farmer always has a plan. Raised on a horticultural farm in South Africa, Eugene grew up learning the value of hard work, self-reliance, and resourcefulness. A formative moment came when, at ten years old, he asked his father why he always had to do the work. His father replied, “Son, if I do it, you’ll never learn.” That lesson stuck.
Eugene has always had a passion for hands-on work, tackling complex, physical tasks and crafting solutions that stand up to the wear and tear of rural life. He’s drawn to jobs that demand grit, creativity, and a practical eye for detail. For Eugene, rural life is one of constant upkeep and improvement, and it’s a life he knows well.
Living off the land himself, Eugene understands how demanding and time-consuming it can be to maintain a comfortable, functional rural lifestyle. That’s why he started Windy Corner Earthworks: to offer Northland locals a reliable, capable service that eases the workload and keeps things moving. Whether it’s land shaping, drainage, or general earthworks, Eugene brings his lifetime of experience to every job.

Equipment & Capability
At Windy Corner, our range of compact but powerful machinery allows us to take on a wide variety of rural and lifestyle block projects efficiently and safely. From drainage work and fencing to site prep and vegetation control, our equipment is purpose-built for tough Northland conditions. Our 8-tonne excavator with a swamp bucket is ideal for cleaning drains without disturbing soil structure, while our skid steer offers excellent versatility with augers, a post rammer, mulcher, and levelling attachments. For compacting trenches or pipework, we use a range of plate compactors suited to different depths. Whether it’s installing fence lines, clearing overgrowth, or prepping a tank site, we have the right tools for the job and experienced operators to match.

This machine is ideal for drain cleaning and trench maintenance, especially in sensitive areas where it's important to leave soil undisturbed. The swamp bucket allows us to remove weeds, reeds, and built-up plant matter from ditches and water channels without pulling up the underlying base. It’s particularly effective in maintaining water flow and preventing blockages without causing damage to carefully graded drainage lines.

ur skid steer is a highly versatile workhorse used for a variety of land development tasks. With its compact frame and strong hydraulic system, it can handle everything from moving materials to site levelling and mulching. Its multiple attachments allow us to adapt to a wide range of jobs on the fly, making it an essential machine for tight access areas and smaller lifestyle blocks.
Auger (200–750 mm, up to 3.2 m deep)
Drills post holes or footings for fencing, planting, and foundations. Handles most soil types and reaches up to 3.2 m deep.
Post Rammer (up to 300 mm diameter, 3.2 m deep)
Drives posts without pre-digging, making quick work of fencing and structural installs.Forklift Attachment
Moves pallets, posts, and materials where standard forklifts can't – perfect for landscaping or builds.4-in-1 Bucket
Scoops, scrapes, spreads, and grabs – used for land clearing, backfilling, and shaping driveways.Grading Leveller
Produces clean, flat surfaces for pads, driveways, or concrete prep.Mulcher Attachment
Clears scrub, gorse, and overgrowth, turning it into fine mulch for paddocks or plant-ready land.

We carry a range of plate compactors suited to various job sizes and access constraints. These are used to compact soil, gravel, or base course after trenching or before laying concrete and asphalt.
Small (Compacting Depth 33 cm) – Designed for tight trenches and pipework, ideal where space is limited.
Medium (Compacting Depth 62 cm) – Our go-to for general use on driveways, paths, or backfilled trenches.
Large (Compacting Depth 93 cm) – Used for large, open areas where strong compaction is needed quickly.
-
Ideal for small jobs and tight access areas, our handheld auger is used for quick post holes, small footings, and planting. It’s especially useful for jobs that don’t justify large machinery but still need clean, straight holes at consistent depths.
-
Our compact, stand-on skid steer is ideal for tight spots where larger machines can’t go. Tracked for stability and low ground pressure, it acts like a powerful mechanical wheelbarrow — perfect for shifting soil, metal, mulch, or debris in restricted spaces. Great for landscaping, trench backfilling, or tidy-up work around sheds and fences.
