Culvert Replacement and Driveway Rebuild in Waipu

On a rural property in Waipu, an old concrete culvert had warped and filled with soil, causing flooding and erosion near the entrance. We were called in to remove the failed system, install a modern PVC culvert, and rebuild a 10-metre stretch of driveway over the top with new compacted stone.

Project Summary

We began by removing the damaged concrete sections. Once the trench was cleared and reshaped with the correct gradient, we installed a continuous PVC culvert pipe, lightweight, durable, and resistant to future blockages. After backfilling and compacting around the pipe, we turned to the driveway.

A 10-metre section of the entrance was rebuilt from the base up. We brought in new stone, levelled it with the skid steer, and compacted it thoroughly to ensure a stable, all-weather surface. The result is a solid entry that won’t rut or flood under pressure.

Outcome + Client Benefit

The new PVC culvert now directs water properly beneath the drive, eliminating pooling and erosion. The rebuilt driveway is smooth, solid, and ready for regular use in all weather. What was once a muddy, unstable entry is now a clean, functional access point that the owners can rely on. Driveway erosion and blocked culverts are common issues on rural Waipu properties. This project shows how a proper drainage upgrade paired with compacted road base can solve both access and water flow issues in one go.
