Driveway Construction in Waipu
A Waipu homeowner needed a new driveway built from the rear to the front of their house. The planned route crossed a low, muddy area with natural spring activity, making the ground consistently damp and unstable. We were brought in to drain, build up, and level the site to create a reliable, weatherproof driveway.
Project Summary
The key issue was the ground itself. A spring ran beneath the intended path, saturating the area year-round and making it impossible to use for access. Any attempt to drive over it resulted in ruts, bogging, and mess.
Our first step was drainage. We installed sub-surface drainage to redirect spring water away from the driveway alignment. With the water managed, we brought in clean fill and aggregate to build up the level, layer by layer. Each layer was compacted thoroughly to ensure the driveway could withstand regular use.
Once the area was raised and stabilised, we graded the surface for correct fall and water runoff, then finished it with compacted top metal. The result is a clean, firm, and all-weather access route from the back to the front of the home.
Outcome + Client Benefit
The muddy, unusable section is now a solid, accessible driveway that stays firm in all conditions. Drainage has solved the waterlogging issue at the source, and the compacted layers ensure long-term performance. The client now has reliable rear-to-front access with no risk of bogging, rutting, or ongoing repairs. Many Northland properties have natural springs or damp patches under the surface. This project shows how proper drainage and compacted build-up can turn a waterlogged area into a practical, long-term access route.
